The formation is promoted and recommended by the KNVB, the Dutch National Federation, for use with all youth teams in professional academies. Author Robert Podeyn explains the roles and responsibilities of the defenders, midfielders and forwards both in attacking and defending situations. He describes many practices that he has used and observed during his coaching experiences in the Netherlands that will show you how to train your team to play using the 4 - 3 - 3 formation. These practices start with technical skill drills and progress to functional training by position.

This book is essential to complete any coaching library. Robert Podeyn has extensive coaching experience in the Netherland and in the United States. Podeyn has earned coaching certifications from the USSF, NSCAA and KNVB as well as working directly with both AFC Ajax and Vitesse Arnhem. Podeyn has spent the last six years as a professional coach at the college and club levels and currently coaches Northwood University and Genesis Elite FC, both in the Dallas, Texas area.

The foreword is written by Pieter Huistra. Huistra played professionally for 13 years with teams in Holland, Scotland, Japan and Belgian. He also played for the Dutch National Team numerous times. Huistra's coaching career has included time with the Hong Kong National Team, as the U19 coach for FC Groningen in Holland and most recently as the Assistant Manager for Vitesse Arnhem of the Eredivisie.
