Brazil has won five World Cups. They haven’t won them by skill and passion alone. They certainly have an abundance of talented players from which to choose. But their success can also be attributed to their commitment to player development, highly specialized fitness systems, attention to details and, lastly, their tactical insights. One of which is the “Box Midfield”.
Brazil’s system of play is famous for its version of the 4-4-2, which utilizes the “Box Midfield”. Carlos Alberto Parreira, won the 1994 World Cup in the USA with a “Box Midfield” as part of a 4-4-2. Parreira utilized the same formation in Germany 2006, which he refers to as the “Magic Square”.
Although mostly used as part of a 4-4-2 formation, the Brazilian teams often use the “Box Midfield” when having three or five midfield players. This flexibility is one of its strengths and makes it difficult for the opposition to handle.
We have produced “The Brazilian Box Midfield”, as a clear and practical DVD on how to apply the Brazilian Box system. This DVD will be helpful for any coach, from elite professional teams to youth club teams, to better understand the principles of Brazilian soccer and its systems of play.
This DVD details all the necessary aspects of how to apply the “Box Midfield” system; building from the back, entering the attacking half, triangulation, finishing, ball possession, transitions, the global training system, and even how to prepare for game day. We believe this DVD is a keystone for a successful way of playing attractive soccer.
Both from Brazil, Vinicius Dos Santos and Luciano Reis, have coached at the professional level in their native country with EC Vitoria, EC Bahia and Clube Pequeninos do Jockey. Now based in the USA, they coach with the Sereno Soccer Club (Arizona).
